Woodford Reserve has rolled out its latest experimental whiskey under the Distillery Series banner: Tawny Port Finish, a limited-edition blend that pushes the boundaries of bourbon and rye craftsmanship. This new release combines the spicy complexity of rye with the smooth richness of bourbon—some of which has been matured in tawny port barrels—creating a layered and distinctive flavor experience.
Bottled at 90.4 proof and offered in 375ml bottles priced at $65, Tawny Port Finish is available exclusively at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and select Kentucky retailers.
Barrel Finishing Meets Blending Mastery
Launched in 2015, the Distillery Series serves as a platform for Woodford Reserve’s most creative and boundary-pushing releases. With Tawny Port Finish, Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall emphasizes the art of both blending and barrel finishing. The port-seasoned barrels lend the whiskey enhanced notes of wood and concentrated fruit, contributing to a nuanced flavor profile.
Tasting notes reveal a symphony of cinnamon, cherry, caramel, baked pecan, salted dark chocolate, and rum-soaked raisins. While only a portion of the whiskey underwent port barrel finishing, full details of the blend remain undisclosed—adding an air of mystery to an already captivating release.
